Archbishop John Bukovsky on Saturday December 18, 2010. John
died this morning at about 7:00 am. In accordance with his
wishes, after our celebrations here at Techny, John's body will
be transported to Slovakia for burial. The arrangements here at
Techny are as follows:

Dear Confreres,
Bishop Ray Kalisz passed away this afternoon, Sunday
December
12, 2010. Ray’s heart stopped about 3pm at Evanston Hospital, in
the presence of his nephew and his nephew’s wife. Ray had
developed some complications following his heart surgery last
week, and had taken a turn for the worse.
Arrangements are pending.

Oggi,
chiamato dal Padre, ci ha lasciato per essere cittadino del cielo,
P. Michele, il nostro carissimo confratello che anche negli ultimi
anni, pur sofferente e debilitato dalla lunga malattia, ci ha
offerto sempre un esempio di serena accettazione e di grande
equilibrio fondato in una fede incrollabile.
Michal Lapsansky è nato il 25.03.1920 a Smizany, nell’attuale
Slovacchia, in una famiglia fortemente cattolica, in un tempo in cui
l’integralismo comunista impediva anzi perseguitava ogni
manifestazione religiosa, specialmente il cattolicesimo. La
fanciullezza, vissuta in questo ambiente, ha profondamente influito
una crescita legata alla fede vissuta, praticata e difesa di fronte
alla ostilità del regime. Entra da ragazzo di 12 anni nel seminario
minore verbita a Stiavnik e poi a Nitra, ove compie i primi studi.
Dopo il noviziato, emette i primi voti nel 1941 sempre nella casa
missionaria verbita di Nitra. Frequenta il primo anno di filosofia
all’università di Vienna, ospite dei Francescani, perché St, Gabriel
in quegli anni era sequestrato dalle truppe russe. Il secondo anno
della filosofia lo frequenta a Nitra. Anche i primi tre anni di
teologia, a causa delle difficoltà e mancanza di libertà, si
svolgono prima dai Gesuiti e poi a Nitra, dove il 1.09.1946 fu
ordinato sacerdote dall’Arcivescovo Kmetko. Per ovvie difficoltà e
persecuzioni il successivo 24.10.1946, riesce con alcuni confratelli
giovani, a raggiungere Roma, ove frequenta il quarto anno alla
Gregoriana ottenendo anche la licenza in teologia. Il distacco dalla
terra natale, dagli affetti famigliari, dalle proprie tradizioni,
pur di seguire la chiamata del Signore è stato spesso ricordato con
sofferenza ma anche con accettazione nella fede.
Il 16.07.1947 giunge a Varone, primo suo campo di lavoro, ove nel
1949 diventa Viceprefetto e “animatore vocazionale” ( chi non
ricorda il giovane simpatico prete che con la sua Morini
scoppiettante scorazzava per tutto il triveneto e non solo, e
raccoglieva ragazzi attratti dalla sua persona e dal suo fare
attraente); l’anno seguente il 19-09-1950 fu nominato Prefetto.
Varone in quel tempo era affollata da circa un centinaio di ragazzi
e Padre Michele, è sempre stato visto come il Padre, formatore
paziente e benevolo, di un equilibrio e capacità di colloquio
ammirevole. Furono anni difficili, sia perché ogni inizio è
difficile, sia dal lato economico e formativo, eppure ricordati con
grande nostalgia da tanti ex-allievi per l’ambiente sereno e bonario
in cui si viveva, e in cui l’animatore era sempre P. Michele. Nel
1956 fu nominato Rettore di Varone, ma l’anno seguente fu eletto
Regionale della Regione verbita Svizzera – Italia. Nel 1962 ottenne
anche la cittadinanza italiana, e quindi venne nuovamente rieletto
per tre anni Rettore di Varone. Una grave malattia lo costrinse a
ritirarsi per tre anni nella casa delle Suore a Gardone sul Garda,
quindi fu chiamato a Roma come Rettore del Collegio. Per nove anni
rimase come Padre responsabile e allo stesso confidente dei molti
studenti verbiti che si recavano a Roma per gli studi nelle
università romane. Nel 1981 al 1995 fu chiamato a prestare il suo
servizio come Padre Spirituale nel Collegio San Pietro, collegio di
Propaganda fide affidato ai Padri Verbiti. Quanti giovani preti sono
stati accompagnati, consigliati, rafforzati e incoraggiati da P.
Michele; quanti Vescovi ritornando a Roma facevano visita al loro
Padre per consigli e incoraggiamenti. Il suo ricordo e il suo
servizio, che si allargava anche a molti impegnati nella Curia
romana, è incancellabile ancor oggi. Nel 1995 ritornò al suo vecchio
amore, Varone, ma come pensionato.
Certamente la sua presenza si fece subito notare specialmente tra
gli ammalati e come confessore nella parrocchia di Varone. Era
ricercato e amato, per la sua bontà e profondità nella fede, un vero
maestro di umanità e di genuini valori evangelici. I primi anni sono
stati molto sereni, ma poi la malattia con i suoi vari passi
progressivi, l’hanno debilitato e alla fine reso dipendente e legato
alla sedia a rotelle. Eppure le visite riconoscenti sono state
sempre continue, ma specialmente il suo atteggiamento è rimasto
sempre gentile e affabile con tutti, ricco di un sano umor, ma allo
stesso tempo pieno di ottimismo dettato dalla fede, veramente un
esempio come bisogna anche accogliere la sofferenza e viverla
assieme a Cristo.
Ultimamente, dopo poco più di una settimana di
degenza all’ospedale di Arco, Dio lo ha chiamato a se, nella
mattinata del 13 novembre, come servo fedele e umile del Regno.

A
crowd of more than 300 people turned out on Wednesday evening
10th November to pay their respects to the late Fr Brian Byrne
SVD. In his role as Co-ordinator of Justice and Peace and
Integrity of Creation for the SVD Australia Province, Brian
worked with people from many countries who had either sought
asylum in Australia as refugees or migrated to Australia. People
from Vietnamese, Chinese, Indonesian, Cambodian and Australian
backgrounds gathered at Arnold Janssen chapel to both sit and
pray and to share their fond memories of the simple priest who
had championed their cause. The following day Thursday saw the
celebration of Requiem Mass and burial. SVD Provincial Superior,
Tim Norton, presided at the Mass and in the homily, long time
friend, Fr Frank Gerry said ... Brian died well. He was helped by
those who loved him and he responded to their help. May he now
enjoy eternal rest from his labors with the saints and in the
embrace of the God who loved him into existence and sustained
him to the end……MAY HE REST IN ETERNAL PEACE

以前、新潟教会でも活躍された神言会のフランシス・ブレシ神父様（Fr.
Francis Bures,
SVD）が、今朝方、名古屋において亡くなられたという連絡が、神言会日本管区からありました。神父様はこの数年間、前立腺がんと闘っておられたということです。83歳でした。
通夜は8月19日午後6時より、葬儀は8月20日午前10時より、名古屋の南山教会で執り行われるということです。神父様の永遠の安息のために、どうぞお祈りください。

is a report from the SVD Province Center that Fr. Francis Bures,
SVD, who formerly worked in the Niigata Diocese, died this morning.
Fr. Bures has been battling with prostate cancer for the past
several years. He was 83 years old.
The wake will be held at 6 pm on 19 Aug, and the funeral at 10 am on
20 Aug, both at Nanzan Church in Nagoya. Let us pray for Fr. Bures'
eternal rest.

descanso en el Reino Eterno a nuestro veterano: Padre Ladislao
Sarley, falleció a las 20,50 hs. del día 6/8/2010 en el HOGAR SAN
JAVIER de Rafael Calzada (ARS), a los 95 años de edad. La Eucaristía
pascual, de cuerpo presente, tendremos mañana, sábado 7/8/2010, a
las 16,30 horas; luego será el entierro en el cementerio privado de
la Congregación en Rafael Calzada.

Dear Confreres,
Our
confrere Ken Feehan died last night, July 26th, at 5:15pm at St.
Elizabeth Hospital in Boston. Ken had been quietly struggling with
cancer for some time, and was hospitalized last week as his
condition got worse.

Father
Feehan arrived in the Territory of Papua New Guinea in the early
sixties and was first assigned to then Diocese of Madang. With his
Educational Degrees Father Ken was asked by the Bishop to establish
one of the first high schools in Province in the Bogia District.
Around 1966 the Provincial of the Society of the Divine Word asked
Father Feehan to take over the construction and establishment of the
Catholic High School in Madang, now Divine Word University. He
served as Headmaster of the School until his assignment to the Wewak
Diocese around 1980. He eventually became the Business Manager of
that Diocese until his return to the States around 2000.
Father
Ken was an ardent supporter of the youth of PNG. The students from
Catholic High School were made up of not just students from that
Province but of several other Provinces assuring the use of English
as a common language and thus preparing students for higher studies
following graduation. Father Ken has passed from the scene but his
efforts remain and are there for all to see today.

at Techny. He had been knocking on heaven’s door for several weeks,
and passed away very peacefully this morning. I’m sure he greeted
Jesus with his usual “hello my brother”!

Fermoy. In the loving care of the staff
at University College Hospital, Galway. Predeceased by his sister
Mary and brother Colman. He will be sadly missed by his sisters Joan
and Dolly (Presentation Sisters, Australie and Helen, brother Conor
(New York), nieces, nephews, confreres in the Divine Word
Missionaries, relatives and friends.Reposing at Donamon Castle on
Friday from 5pm. Removal on Saturday morning to the Divine Word
Church, arriving for Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon. Burial
afterwards in the Community Cemetery.
May He Rest in Peace
